On the Other Side of Mt. Everest!

We got off the plane around 2pm. We found out she was already at the hotel. It was a 45 min. drive from the airport. They let us go to the room and get our things together. It was around 4:30 that we went the the conference room to meet Renee. She just stared at us for awhile and then the crying started. She cried for around an hour or more and then just went to a soft sobbing cry. We had to go and finish paperwork and she seemed serious and kinda shell shocked. Came back up to the room and after drinking water from a bottle she started coming to life. At first she would not look me in the eyes, which I expected. But she quickly came to life and even let Nathan hold her on his lap. We ate at hotel and she fell asleep in my arms and she is now sleeping in the crib. My arms feel like jello right now. I will be pulling out the baby front carrier tomorrow. We have to leave at 8:30am tomorrow to sign the documents to make her officially our daughter. Seriously everything has happened so fast I have not had time to process it yet. I know you want the pictures so that is all the matters now!

Time for bed. I have no idea what tonight and tomorrow will be like. Good night!

  1. Oh Lisa.

    She's beautiful. I'm crying too. No words left, except I'm so happy for all of you and can't wait to meet Renee!

    Love you,

    Annette

  2. I woke up this morning and said right away,"The Welling's should have Renee by now!" We totally understand what you mean too about things happening so fast you don't have time to process it all! So excited for you guys. And we LOVED her Minnie Mouse outfit (;

    Seeing Renee in the same photo as you is an answer to many prayers! Sleep well. We will continue to pray as you all go through this transition period.

  4. Blessed is not the correct words for this. Touched by God seems to be more appropriate! Your family is now 100% complete; you have the happiness that some of us can only hope to have. Renee has a great family base to learn from and is one of the luckiest babies ever from that side of the world! Congrats to the Wellings!

  5. Lisa! I'm so happy to see your post! We had a rough night last night and a hot and cold day today. Joya is officially ours though and we are thrilled. We can't wait to reunite on Guangzhou. The days can't move quickly enough.

  6. Yup - all the kids cry. We were told to give them candy. That kind of worked, but Aria horded the candy in the hotel night stand. Orphanage habits. So happy for your family. Great to see Nathan being apart of this journey. Taking our kids opened their eyes to the conditions of the rest of the world (those outside the USA bubble). Congratulations! And God bless you for obeying His command to father the Fatherless.
